PÉTER HECKER | festőZOMBIK
In Péter Hecker’s paintings, everyday life, family memories and the art world become scenes of absurdity. Beneath the humour lies a sensitivity to social and political questions; a title often opens up another narrative within the image.
He studied visual communication in Kassel while attending the Intermedia Department in Budapest as a visiting student. kArton and Deák Erika Gallery have been key partners throughout his career, and his works are held in the collection of the Ludwig Museum, Budapest.
His friendship with the writer Attila Hazai encompassed a wide range of creative collaborations. He contributed graphics, illustrations and cover designs to Hazai’s books, and appeared in the film Cukorkékség, directed by Hazai and Gergely Pohárnok.
His painting The Painter Zombies Have Emerged from Their Studio (2011), on view at MoZsÅr, gives this apartment exhibition its title. The name festőZOMBIK was also Hecker’s idea: four distinct painterly worlds now emerge from a shared past.
